| 1 On that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing of the people. | 6 While this was taking place, I was not in Jerusalem, for in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I went to the king. | 11 So I confronted the officials and said, "Why is the house of God forsaken?" | 15 In those days I saw in Judah people treading winepresses on the Sabbath, and bringing in heaps of grain and loading them on donkeys, and also wine, grapes, figs, and all kinds of loads, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day. | 17 Then I confronted the nobles of Judah and said to them, "What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day? | 17 അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ യെഹൂദാശ്രേഷ്ഠന്മാരെ ശാസിച്ചു; നിങ്ങൾ ശബ്ബത്തുനാൾ അശുദ്ധമാക്കി ഇങ്ങനെ ദോഷം ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്തു? | 17 तब मैं ने यहूदा के रईसोंको डांटकर कहा, तुम लोग यह क्या बुराई करते हो, जो विश्रमदिन को अपवित्र करते हो? |
| 18 Did not your fathers act in this way, and did not our God bring all this disaster on us and on this city? | 19 As soon as it began to grow dark at the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut and gave orders that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. | 21 But I warned them and said to them, "Why do you lodge outside the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you." | 22 Then I commanded the Levites that they should purify themselves and come and guard the gates, to keep the Sabbath day holy. Remember this also in my favor, O my God, and spare me according to the greatness of your steadfast love. | 22 ലേവ്യരോടു ഞാൻ ശബ്ബത്തുനാളിനെ വിശുദ്ധീകരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തങ്ങളെത്തന്നേ വിശുദ്ധീകരിക്കയും വന്നു വാതിലുകളെ കാക്കുകയും ചെയ്‍വാൻ കല്പിച്ചു. എന്റെ ദൈവമേ, ഇതുവും എനിക്കായി ഓർത്തു നിന്റെ മഹാദയപ്രകാരം എന്നോടു കനിവു തോന്നേണമേ. | 22 तब मैं ने लेवियोंको आज्ञा दी, कि अपके अपके को शुद्ध करके फाटकोंकी रखवाली करने के लिथे आया करो, ताकि विश्रमदिन पवित्र माना जाए। हे मेरे परमेश्वर ! मेरे हित के लिथे यह भी स्मरण रख और अपक्की बड़ी करुणा के अनुसार मुझ पर तरस खा। |
| 23 In those days also I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab. | 23 ആ കാലത്തു ഞാൻ അസ്തോദ്യരും അമ്മോന്യരും മോവാബ്യരും ആയ സ്ത്രീകളെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ച യെഹൂദന്മാരെ കണ്ടു. | 23 फिर उन्हीं दिनोंमें मुझ को ऐसे यहूदी दिखाई पके, जिन्होंने अशदोदी, अम्मोनी और मोआबी स्त्रियां ब्याह ली यीं। |
| 24 And half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah, but the language of each people. | 24 അവരുടെ മക്കൾ പാതി അസ്തോദ്യഭാഷ സംസാരിച്ചു; അവർ അതതു ജാതിയുടെ ഭാഷയല്ലാതെ യെഹൂദ്യഭാഷ സംസാരിപ്പാൻ അറിഞ്ഞില്ല. | 24 और उनके लड़केबालोंकी आधी बोली अशदोदी थी, और वे यहूदी बोली न बोल सकते थे, दोनोंजाति की बोली बोलते थे। |
| 25 And I confronted them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair. | 26 Did not Solomon king of Israel sin on account of such women? Among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was beloved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel. | 27 Shall we then listen to you and do all this great evil and act treacherously against our God by marrying foreign women?" | 27 നിങ്ങൾ അന്യജാതിക്കാരത്തികളെ വിവാഹം കഴിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തോടു ദ്രോഹിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഈ വലിയ ദോഷം ഒക്കെയും ചെയ്‍വാൻ തക്കവണ്ണം ഞങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളെ സമ്മതിക്കുമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. | 27 तो क्या हम तुम्हारी सुनकर, ऐसी बड़ी बुराई करें कि अन्यजाति की स्त्रियां ब्याह कर अपके परमेश्वर के विरुद्ध पाप करें? |
| 28 And one of the sons of Jehoiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was the son-in-law of Sanballat the Horonite. Therefore I chased him from me. | 28 യോയാദയുടെ പുത്രന്മാരിൽ മഹാപുരോഹിതനായ എല്യാശീബിന്റെ മകൻ ഹോരോന്യനായ സൻബല്ലത്തിന്റെ മരുമകൻ ആയിരുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാൻ അവനെ എന്റെ അടുക്കൽനിന്നു ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു. | 28 और एल्याशीब महाथाजक के पुत्र योयादा का एक पुत्र, होरोनी सम्बल्लत का दामाद या, इसलिथे मैं ने उसको अपके पास से भगा दिया। |
